Educational Games: Aren't they great?

Personally, throughout my childhood I was always playing games, whether it was on my game boy, the computer, nintendo 64, GameCube, etc... I thoroughly enjoyed my play time after doing my homework, but looking back in hindsight, I didn't really go much of 'educational game' time. I preferred playing Mario rather than working on my maths work through counting games, or something of that sort. I was always bored by those sort of games and in school we never played computer games, like some children can in schools nowadays. It was always a group game of dominoes or some board game that promoted counting.
As a part of growing up, it's important for children to have their play time either in a group or by themselves but sometimes it's imperative for children to play educational games that will develop their skills and their knowledge. Learning through the use of play is really good for them and will help them in all sorts of areas of their lives. So, educational games? They are absolutely great for children!

Internet Detectives!

A few months ago, I used this website in one of my classes. It gives information and knowledge onto students about what is good and what is bad out there on the net. It is a very user friendly website, suitable for children and not just university or college students, which brings diversity and variety to the table for children.
I don't imagine every uni student like myself has come about this website, which is bad because regardless of the negatives, it's an actual useful website for people to know what they shouldn't use in their uni work and what they should.
Having more knowledge on the internet is a must! It is incredibly useful and good for people to use for their seminar papers to their dissertations. Internet Detectives acts a bit like a tutorial which teaches you all sorts of skills to be safe out there in the world wide web.

our inspirational video we made a few weeks ago

For our visual communications  class, we were encouraged to make a video that portrayed the lives of uni students. We decided to portray (not very well) the life of a student living away from home in hall of residence, and another that lives at home. Now, throughout this short video, that isn't always clear, but our intentions were good at least, huzzah!

how could you use Glogster EDU in an educational context?

Glogster EDU?

This is an online learning website which gives users a digital educational content and a means for creation. It was brought to us in December 2009 and it is mainly used by educators and students for interactive, collaborative education. It's an important part of learning, to use versatile means of resources. It brings another sense of versatility to the table which means that children have a wide variety to choose from. It allows both educators and students to publish and search for anything educational.

You do have to pay a certain fee each year depending if you're in 'elementary', 'secondary' or 'faculty', this can and will be seen as a disadvantage, which means that maybe some people may not be able to get it and therefore becomes less popular due to the cost of $95 for secondary pupils per annum. This may mean that some children are excluded from this experience due to the cost.

This platform seems to be very useful and I think that it would facilitate the searching for information and knowledge that children may need from the day to day schedule of the school day. It would also be a helpful way for the teachers to store all the plans and all the information that children will need to research for themselves.
This education platform means that children can be independent and responsible for their own learning.

Ted Talks Inspirational video review

This talk is simply about autism and the way in which it frees people to be who they truly want to be. I stumbled upon this video on the website Ted.com. I watched it and immediately thought that I needed to share it and then I realised that I need an inspirational video to post, so I am glad that I found it. It is incredibly inspirational, the personal experiences that the girl brings forward are eye opening for anyone to start understanding autism and how important it is for us not to put everyone into 'a little box with specific labels'. It brings awareness to autism and how they feel and how they see things also. It's frequent to see websites and videos educating people on autism, this should be more popular and I'm glad that Ted Talks promotes this along with so many other videos that express many important and versatile subjects and topics. Versatility has always been an issue with society, people don't like stereotypes but yet place certain groups of people in hypothetical boxes with stereotypical judgments. This girl talks about how autism makes her mind work, which is a clear insight and makes us think outside the norms. Which definitely helped me to understand it a little bit more at least. This has been put on my blog because I feel that if it helped me comprehend autism a little bit more, then it could possibly teach and help others too, which is an advantage.
